What I Discover at Yale About Myself

I have learnt how to ask for help. How to have fun anywhere. How to empathize. How to talk to strangers that maybe they would become life long friends. I found that the things you learn from your differences are more interesting than finding out what you have in common. I understand the importance of sharing a meal with different people and nationalities, which become an opportunity for socializing and sharing. It’s nice to discover how far you can stretch your comfort zone.

How to get used to a new culture: cinema, music, dance, architecture, literature and cuisine. Even though I have seen throughout movies and television how americans live, is completely different experience by yourself.

I have always want to spend a summer in the United States by doing a business programme or something related in my major. When I started to search the top-fier universities in US, I realized that Yale was the one I should go this summer.

I am in the last days on this amazing experience, and I am reviewing all I have lived in this programme, I realize some things I have discovered about myself and how an environment influences me.

I have had to adapt to american, chinese, italian, japanese and turkey’s accent. I had to deal with the poor bathroom, room temperature, new food, noisy bedroom because mine overlooks the street… but I finally solve them out.

Finally, what most it worried me was the foot disability that I have. I knew before coming that I would have to treat my foot disease, which wasn’t going to be easy. I didn’t realize that I was going to suffer such a great pain in my foot, so I needed to take physical therapy at Yale.

“ I am too tired and I don’t want to talk to anyone. I only want to chill out in my bedroom. “

Finally when I found my center, I met inteligent and helpful physicians who assisted and gave me a a better quality life due to the techniques they trained me. Now I really appreciate the time I had with them.

Briefly, what I discover about myself is that I am more resourceful than I thought. I made my own important and quick decisions about all that surrounds me, which made me a positive self-change. I have become more independent, out-going, self-confidence and organized, but sometimes I couldn’t planned out the unexpected adventures and misadventures that I have lived with my colleagues. I have been in another environment, where I gain proactivity and self-discovering by pushing my limits.

To say goodbye I would like to spread that living abroad is supposed to be an adventure but it also surrounds difficult times, whose make us brave for your entire life.
